No.
If you are the first person ever to send their fleet to that planet, then you may name it. Undiscovered planets usually have weird names (they are auto generated) and a description like: this planet is a dull dump.
If you colonize a planet, the colony is owned by your alliance, and the alliance with the highest number of colonies... is wel... Good. Kindof.

Bullsh.it even a retard can colonize a prewarp it's not cause yu have many colonies in yout alliance, that you have a good alliance, than you're just a person who has nothing else to do and has a lot of time
but that's just my perspective
oh and to answer your question nope you can't rename them pitty though
i'dd call 'em Boobville

But if you have the most colonies you are at the top of the list.
Your good if you have a lot of colonies. Unless of course you have a bad amount of points. If alliances are of equal strenght and points, and one has much more colonies, I would call that one the better.
The game is ofcourse mainly about the points, but colonies matter too, just like hunt score.
