improved cloaking technology (basic research)

the classic cloaking technology allows only the production of huge cloaking devices which will not fit into ships. this research has the goal to minimize the size of cloaking devices to let them even fit into ships.

A question has come to mind regarding cloaking tech and it's potential uses.
Is it possible to build a ship that is able to cloak itself and still run with the pack ?

I was thinking about a fighter ( or any ship) that could cloak itself and inter-mingle and fight with regular fighters. An example would be to have a fleet with 100 fighters and 100 cloaking fighters in a fleet together. Only the 100 regular fighters show on enemy DSP.
Another example and use would be to have a couple of fighters in a fleet that contains primairly C2 or C3 ships. To the enemy, it would appear, on DSP to have a c2 / c3 ships only, however, when hit with a Penguin or Kame fleet, the attacking c1's encounter these cloaked ships and ruin the intended anticipated effect.

Is this type of ship possible? A cloaked ship would not necessarily have to fight but it would still have to be a solid vessel that could take hits and be destroyed ?

From the Manual

cloaked

a cloaked fleet is invisible to other fleets and cannot fight.
you need at least one ship with a cloaking device to cloak your fleet.

Your thoughts / Comments regarding a single ship that is able to cloak as opposed to whole fleets...................?????????????????????

OMG... this would be insane.. the ships would have to be like a lot of mp..

here you go Rubens.. here is a good example that i beleive T2 is trying to get through.. and T2, this would be a really neat idea if it is implied, yet again the ship would have to be lots of mp...

BATTLE SITUATION:

POINT HUNGRY Iuz is looking for a new target.. find one and here is the dps:

fleet 1 from Noob of all Noobs
0 2 29 2
123/456/78

----------------------------------------------------
Noob of all Noobs is an active player (!!NOT INACTIVE!!) Last logged on 3h 24m

Iuz finds a wonderful opertunity and attacks 3hours later with a 25 fighters, 120 fairchilds, 1 cruiser, 1mothership... his other fleets are busy else where...

------------------------BATTLE REPORT-------------------------

your fleet 1 fights against fleet 1 from Noon of all Noobs at 123/456/78
07.10 19:54:39 - your fleet arrived
06.10 04:11:17 - the enemy fleet arrived

yours: 157 ships
class 1:
25 fighters (1/1, 1 MP)
class 2:
120 fairchilds (20/5, 12 MP)
class 3:
1 cruiser (100/100, 60 MP)
class 4:
1 mothership (0/1000, 320 MP)

enemy: 8 ships
class 1:
30 cloaked fighters (2/2, 6 MP)<-----HERE IS THE SURPRISE!! this will not show up in dsp
class 2:
2 destroyers (10/10, 8 MP)
class 3:
29 cruisers (100/100, 60 MP)
class 4:
1 mothership (0/1000, 320 MP)

- click here to see the complete battlereport -

summary:
your losses:
class 1:
25 fighters
class 2:
1 fairchild
class 3:
1 cruiser

enemy losses:
class 1:
12 cloaked fighters
class 2:
2 destroyers

score: -9

Iuz is now pi$$ed.. not only he lost 9 points but he wasted an oppertunity to gain a sh!t load of points.. then theres battle pause.. the MP is a rough guess..

Cloaked Fighter: (class 1)
e-ray tech

2ap/2lp MP= 4-6

WILL NOT APPEAR ON DSP, BUT WILL IN BATTLE

Tech ReQuired: Improved Cloaking Tech..

enjoy this br.. it took a while..

Question answered Rubens...it is an impossible invention

please correct some data:

cloaking devices are too big to mount them on a smaller ship than class 4.

stealth fighter (class 1 ship)
a fighter that has cloaking capabilities but only for itself.
this ship is the first prototype to attempt to fit a small cloaking generator within a fighter sized ship.

attack/life: 1/2
manpower: 4
This Ship Has a cloaking device

buildingtime: 16 hrs

battle details:

Cool example noxus. Almost exactly what I had in mind but prime rule is..
Cloaked Ships cannot fight so you would have to manually de-cloak all the ships just before opponent hit. It would take long time but the pgming won't allow anything but a mothership to cloak to avoid this conflict in the battle engine.

Too bad...would have been an interesting ship to play with.

Afterthought : Not all the fighters would need to be decloaked...only a couple to achieve desired effect.
We would then have to transfer the decloak probe tech in to some other ship to create a definitive counter.
ahhh...dreams

i think admin could work around this conflict in the battle engine.. no doubt.. and manual decloak, thats an idea too, like a pirate ship.. those are fun

Well, how about if the ships DECLOAK on battle, then recycle after the battle (like the penguin) because the "minature" cloaking device blows out some parts, or malfunctions, or just plain breaks after the stresses of battle. That would make MP perhaps 3 to 4 range with I would say 1/1 fighter (no room for extra weapons because of cloaking device, no room for extra shielding or armour). Anyone like this idea? The recycling would at least allow a 2nd fleet to achieve the desired effect (like I would hit with one fleet....well....not since Dav and Renee yelled at me about that about 15 times....)

Your description of how the ship could accomplish what my intent was is really good Iuz. IF this ship were possible, I would give it a "yes" vote just to add a large dose of uncertainty in fleets and base defence set ups. Does he have c1 or does he not would be the biggest question that would cross every attackers mind.

Sorry admin for spamming up the Cloak tech topic.

Spend 4 credits and invent it....

I would welcome seeing this ship as a pre-warp pickup, but I don't know about it being a shipyard ship, it could RADICALLY alter battles.

Assume you are facing 2 fleets incoming on your blocked swank 10/10/40/1....

First is 15/15/1/1 (415 MP), which wipes out your blocks and checks for any c1 destroying cyclopses....

Second is a 1/1/1/1, maybe another scout? Maybe screwed up order of attack? Well.....

Imagine this hitting your bare swank (assume scout) 1/1/1/1, and seeing this on BR (assuming 4 mp each)

1000 cloaking fighters, 1 fighter/ 1 cruiser / 1 destroyer / 1 MS (4389 MP)

You have just been swank-swatted, and the ships have also recycled... I hope you had cyclopses in there, cuz if not you just lost points and won't regain them (of course you didn't, I checked....lol). Of course the fighters would recycle, but still, 1/1/1/1 scout fleets would no longer be a "safe" bet.

It would have the downside of tying up alot of MP, but it would be interesting....and see why it should not be any higher than 1/1? It's an extreme advantage....even if you wipe it with your fleet that was hyperdropping for cover, you would not touch the lions share of the points due to recycle....and if the base in question was more than 10 hours away....well....

As it stands, it is an impossible invention due to cloak gens not allowed in anything smaller than a C4 ship.

Spend 8 credits, invent unstable cloak generator, which is tiny, but can only cloak tiny ships due to size/geometry. Then invent the ship. It may end up in impossible inventions, but what the hel!, right?

Iuz.. its not that easy for regular players to do such a task.. we would have to get admin to do this..

Also im thinking that this would have to be nanite technology due to the smallness in the cloak gen..

and so this ship should be 1/1 with about 3-6MP.. that sounds good.. also it should recycle or self-destruct when it is through.. probably at the end of the sub-battle..

When you cloak your FLEET is to do a surprise attack.

Why would a ship that can decloak it-self on the battle be usefull? If recycle is the same of a penguin...and, as you know...the "CLOACK" thing is such a good atribute that the mp has to be high which means it has to be c4 which means it wouldnt be usefull to a battle...

a c1, c2 or c3 that can cloak the fleet? to powerfull for this ST.
Sorry:P

but it would be interesting....especially if a few ended up on prewarps only....and I don't necessarily think that it would be too powerful if it had the recycle feature and it was esentially a 1/1 fighter that cost 3 to 6 MP...if it was a prewarp ship ONLY. It would be fun to try, but it would be super annoying to hit a fleet with one of these in it. Call it unstable cloaking technology and put them in the battle simulator....we can see what happens with no risk to the general population.

Cloaked fleets can be much less effective since the "eye" has been introduced into the fleet line up.
No surprises in a cloaked fleet anymore if you are using it.
I think the modified cloaking tech in a c1 would be an interesting development for the game. The "too powerful" statement just don't hold any water when there is 1 ship and 1 probe available to every race that will negate any cloaked fleets surprise factor.

When did it change?
A DSP cant see a cloaked fleet

An eye on the sky can JUST be on a fleet, so you have to be in movement with 1 fleet to see the ships of a clocked FLEET...and the fleet is not always at the base so that argment is useless

A pirate flagship cost 600 and just cloak a fleet and you want a fighter that cost 6 and just recycle that could cloak the fleet?no sense cuz is too powerfull, imagine that at a base...bah...
